Climb the Tour Mélusine, the last vestige of the Lusignan fortified castle. From its 36-metre height, it offers an exceptional panoramic view of the medieval town of Vouvant, the river La Mère and the largest forest in the Vendée (Mervent-Vouvant).

Additional information

Keys to the Tour Mélusine can be hired from the Office de Tourisme Vendée Grand Sud - Vouvant.

According to legend, the tower was built by the fairy Mélusine. She built it in one night using “three dornées de pierres et d'une goulée d'Ève” (three stone-filled aprons and a gulp of water).

Dating from the late 12th, early 13th centuries, this circular keep houses two vaulted, domed rooms.
