Visit to the Corderie Royale

Historical sitesOPEN FEBRUARY/MARCH

Take a self-guided tour of the incredible Corderie Royale, built in 1666 on the orders of King Louis XIV. From the land to the sea, from the hemp fields to the King's ships, come and meet the ropemakers and their work. Enter the workshops and discover the daily activities of the workers, the transformation of the material, the evolution of techniques and the activities of a major factory.

Throughout the year, the Corderie Royale offers temporary exhibitions; access to current exhibitions is included in your admission to the monument.

The tour begins with an immersive show that plunges you into the history of the Corderie Royale. Then, through workshops and interactive experiences, you'll (re)discover the building's primary function, the transformation of materials through the various stages: spinning, committing and seamanship.

Tactile manipulations, image projection, edutainment terminals, interactive games, optical theatre... A whole range of experiences awaits you to help you understand the history of the rope-making industry.
